HIPAA = Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
This is an act that protects health insurance coverage for workers and their families when there is a change or loss in employment. There was also an establishedment of national standards for electronic health care transactions and national identifiers for providers, health insurance plans, and employers. The goal of this act and these standards is to addresses the security and privacy of health data. The standards are meant to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the nation's health care system by encouraging the widespread use of electronic data interchange.
SOX = Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002
Also known as the Public Company Accounting Reform and Investor Protection Act (CARIPA) of 2002 and commonly called SOX or Sarbox; is a United States federal law was signed into law on July 30, 2002. The law provides overseeing, regulating, inspecting, and disciplining various bodies of management and/or accounting firms in their various roles. The Act also covers issues such as auditor independence, corporate governance, internal control assessment, and enhanced financial disclosure.
GLB = Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act
A US law containing provisions that require all financial institutions to disclose to consumers and customers their policies and practices for protecting the privacy of nonpublic personal information. Nonpublic personal information includes any personally identifiable information provided by a customer, resulting from transactions with the financial institution or obtained by a financial institution through providing products or services. Also known as the Financial Modernization Act of 1999.
FACTA = Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act of 2003
This is intended primarily to help consumers fight the growing crime of identity theft The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has issued. And, while the FTC has singled out lenders, insurers, employers, landlords, government agencies, mortgage brokers and automobile dealers; it applies to every individual business subject to their jurisdiction, which includes virtually every person and every business in the United States.
